From the press release.
Undocumented Students will hold a press conference at the University of Georgia’s Arch. Students currently affected by policy 4.1.6. and who are therefore banned from the most competitive universities in the State will share powerful stories of perseverance, struggle and hard work.
Three years have passed since the ban came into effect, we can count the students who have not been able to attend top universities in the state they call home, but we cannot count the broken dreams and hopes as a result of this segregating policy.
Georgia has effectively instituted a new era of educational segregation. Taking inspiration from the brave students of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, who organized and fought for their right to education in Georgia five decades ago, today’s undocumented youth have mobilized in opposition to separate and unequal education in the 21st century.
Through a demonstration and march through the University of Georgia, undocumented students will express their discontent and frustration at the ban. With this action, undocumented students are calling on the Board of Regents to lift the ban and also urging anyone out there to join our campaign. Now is the time to lift the ban, now is the time to stand on the right side of history.
